The reason as to why it is referred to as bacteriostatic water is because the benzyl alcohol prevents bacteria growth, and allows a vial to be re-entered several times. Bacteriostatic Water (BAC) plays a crucial role in the transmission of medicines intravenously, and even intramuscularly. 0.9% Benzyl Alcohol Pure Water Does not contain Sodium
